SUSAN McCLOUD
Drawing and art have always been in my life. I took the occasional art course whenever I could do so. However, retirement has offered me an opportunity to really pursue my art. I am a member of Northwest Artist Guild,
Peninsula Art Association, and Trails End Art Association. Local art classes are now part of my life. My art is most influenced by the Impressionists. Raoul Dufy's color and bold form excite my imagination, and Claude Monet's capture of light with loose forms brings his two dimensional work to life. Right now my work focuses on capturing the light and color of the beautiful area in which we [email protected]

WES MOENKE
Upon his retirement from a career in construction engineering and drafting, Wes wanted to
utilize his drawing skills more artistically and without the precision required in his former
occupation. With this in mind, he participated in art classes at Clark College where an instructor recommended he try oil painting, as watercolor was unpredictable and difficult. Well, that was all the challenge he needed.
Wes utilizes both his engineering skills and artistry to render wonderful, often monochromatic,
watercolor paintings of old logging equipment and trains. It's his way of paying tribute to and
keeping alive the lives and memories of the past. [email protected]

KATHRYN MURDOCK
I am a relative newcomer to art , beginning watercolor painting through an Eric Weigard Workshop in 2006 in Ocean Park. Education and Law were my chosen worlds, as a middle school teacher and later as an attorney in both Oregon and Washington. I am presently teaching school law at the Univ. of Oregon and WSU. The rest of my time is spent kayaking and painting. The analytic thinking used in Law has definitely influenced my painting and kayaking provides access to seascapes otherwise unavailable. I have enjoyed Weigard workshops in Tuscany and Provence. Additionally I have taken classes with Mick McAndrews, an award winning artist at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where the Chester County countryside provided endless inspiration. Now living part-time on the Long Beach peninsula, I am continually inspired by the luscious gray skies , light dancing on the water, and beach and lighthouses shrouded in morning mist. JEAN NITZEL
Jean Nitzel enjoys using watercolors to show her love of nature. Colors and forms combine on the paper with water in unpredictable ways that make each piece personal and unique. Jean lives in Long Beach, Wa. with her husband, Bill, and has owned The Picture Attic for 30 years. In addition to making picture frames, Jean has recently expanded into creating her own art. She belongs to the Peninsula Arts Association as well as the NW ARtist Guild and exhibits also at the Bay Avenue Gallery in Ocean Park. STAN RIEDESEL
Stan paints images of southwest Washington with its small river towns and their people. Fishing and fishermen are a favorite subject. Farms, beaches, and the ever present rain lend the area its particular beauty that is captured in watercolor. Stan has been encouraged by family to draw and create from his youth in Chehalis. Building small wooden boats as a hobby contributes to his drawing also. Later, both in college and as an elementary teacher Stan continued with his love of art, although finding little time to practice it. Having retired with his wife, he sought to expand his love of art by taking classes with Eric Weigard in Ocean Park. Eric's skill with sketching and painting has definitely rubbed off on Stan as has his love of impressionism. Stan is a member of both PAA and NWAG on the Long Beach peninsula and has found success in showing his work. He can be reached at [email protected].

Needing something to reduce stress in my life, in 1990 I started taking watercolor classes from several different instructors through our community college, which provided me with a variety of styles and techniques. I was bitten by the "Artistic Bug". I took additional classes in charcoals, pastels, pencil, drawing prospective, and more watercolor ...soaking up what-ever venue I could. I also have my own line of one-of-a-kind handcrafted greeting cards. One of my more rewarding projects was teaching card making to children at the local Boys and Girls Club. Currently, I am a member of the Northwest Artist Guild, Peninsula Arts Association, and a former member of the West Linn Arts Association. [email protected] |
